Dr. Norman Bergrun is an alumnus of Ames Research Laboratory, NACA (National NASA_logo.svgAdvisory Committee for Aeronautics) predecessor of Ames Research Center, NASA where he worked twelve years as a research scientist. At Ames, he pioneered the setting of design criteria for airplane thermal ice-prevention and the developing of roll stability laws for airplanes, missiles and rockets.

He joined Lockheed Missiles and Space Company (now Lockheed Martin) where he was manager of the planning and analysis of flight tests for the Navy Polaris Underwater Launch Missile System. During his thirteen years at Lockheed, he also served as a senior scientist having responsible analysis cognizance of special space-satellite applications. After a short tour of duty with Nielsen Engineering and Research, in 1971 he founded Bergrun Engineering and Research, parent of Bergrun Research founded in 1999 especially for world wide web activities.

indexAn Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronauics (AIAA), he is active as a leader in Congressional Visits Day events on Capitol Hill. As Deputy Director-at-Large for the AIAA western region, he overlooks section activities in seven western states. Other memberships include The Planetary Society, The Association for the Advancement of Science, The Aviation Hall of Fame, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Federation of American Scientists and the Scientific Faculty, International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England.

Bergrun holds a BSME degree from Cornell University, an LLB from LaSalle University Extension, a DSc (Hon) from World University and a California Professional Engineer (PE) License. He also has engaged in graduate aerospace studies at Stanford University. He is a founder of the California Society of Professional Engineers Education Foundation, is author of two books Tomorrow’s Technology Today and Ringmakers of Saturn and has published over 100 papers. Two recent manuscripts, Lunar Life Forms: Revelations of Apollo 14 and Mars Puts on a Good Face: The Masquerade, have been registered with the Library of Congress, Washington, D. C. He has lectured in the United States, Canada, England and Europe.

Credited with numerous awards and citations including the California Society of Professional Engineers Archimedes Engineering Achievement Award, and Special Service Citations for contributions to the AIAA National Public Policy and to the Regional Sections Activity Committees, he is listed in Marquis “Who’s Who in the World”, “Who’s Who in America”, “Who’s Who in Science and Engineering”, and other reference works.

Continuing interests include photography*, NASA student activities and music, having played as a concert musician at Carnegie Hall with the Cornell University Band and having been a founder of “Aurora Singers”, a 64-voice choir.

“V1 started to Saturn 5 September 1977, he was closest to 12 November 1980. V2 started 20 August 1977. The closest was 26 August 1981. Their approach is 9 months difference. NASA must stick to the party line and say here publicly … so by the former version of NASA, the rings are made up of primary materials, are essentially static and the Cassini Division is no material. I saw the television images from the Voyager 1 and Division Cassini I saw a kind of stick and if there was Voyager 2, again I saw some stuff. NASA now has a version that there are large chunks of matter and ice.”

“Again there oblong object, its emissions (Emissions points) that go into the ring, exhaust gases (exhaust) light source, this time above the ring (luminous source) because of high exposure. The thing that I would like to talk about the toroid (toroidal cylinder) on a curved arm that goes up. Around the conductor comprising electricity in fact forms a toroid, because around it there is a magnetic field.”


“They can control their appearance, according to electromagnetic laws may shape what they want, an infinite number of shapes. So we sometimes think that we see different objects, but they all come from a single unit. Changing shape and size depending on what they are doing. And it is very important idea: there is one basic thing that shows itself in different forms.”


“Luminous phenomena in the vicinity of the rings have been observed repeatedly, and prove that electrostatic forces are at work. From the 18th Century onwards luminous points on the ring edge, luminous objects and the disappearance of one side of Saturn’s rings have been observed. One astronomer (Maurice Ainslie) observed a luminous object pass through the rings and devour ring material as it moved. This object was a mass of ionizing radiation, which can destroy ring material. The rings are known to change in brightness, evidently due to time-varying particle flow. White spots where noted on the rings and the planet numerous times. Bright projections on the rings and “sparkling flocculence” where also observed. For example, a white projection was seen near a white spot at the edge of the south equatorial band on 29 September 1910. Voyager 1 took a photo of Saturn and five of its moons, which included an unexpected luminous object. Images of the F-ring show variable luminosity that includes observations of a helical core and emission jets.”

Uranus has Rings?

The rings of Uranus were discovered on March 10, 1977, by James L. Elliot, Edward W. uranusringsDunham, and Jessica Mink. More than 200 years ago, in 1789, William Herschel also reported observing rings; some modern astronomers are skeptical that he could have actually seen them, as they are very dark and faint – others are not.



“Herschel wrote a paper in 1797 where he describes something very much like a ring around Uranus, but his findings have been dismissed because the rings are so faint that no one could believe he saw them… It’s possible (though I have no idea how likely) that over 200 years that Uranus’s rings too have gotten fainter making them harder to detect now than in the 1790s.”

Did Phobos II Have a Run-in with a Ringmaker?

The Phobos program was an unmanned space mission consisting of two probes phoboslaunched by the Soviet Union to study Mars and its moons Phobos and Deimos.

Phobos 2 became a Mars orbiter and returned 38 images with a resolution of up to 40 meters. Both probes suffered from critical failures.

Phobos 1 and 2 were of a new spacecraft design, succeeding the type used in the Venera planetary missions of 1975-1985, last used during the Vega 1 and Vega 2 missions to comet Halley.

Phobos 1 was launched on July 7, 1988 and Phobos 2 on July 12, 1988, each aboard a Proton-K rocket. They each had a mass of 2600 kg (6220 kg with orbital insertion hardware attached).

The program featured co-operation from 14 other nations including Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, France, West Germany, and the United States (who contributed the use of its Deep Space Network for tracking the twin spacecraft).

Phobos ll arrived in January 1989 and entered an orbit around Mars as the first phase towards its real destination, a small Martian moon called Phobos.

The mission was flawless until the craft aligned itself with the moon.

Large Cigar-Shaped Shadow on Mars


On March 28, 1989 an elliptical object was detected moving towards the satellite seconds before it failed.

All indications were that the elliptical object had attacked the satellite which was now dead and left spinning out of control.


On March 28, 1989 Tass, the official Soviet news agency stated:

“Phobos II failed to communicate with Earth as scheduled after completing an operation yesterday around the Martian moon Phobos. Scientists at mission control have been unable to establish stable radio contact.”

1989 1mariapopevichBut the next day a top official of the Soviet Space Agency (Glavkosmos) said: “Phobos II is 99% lost for good.”

It is important to note that he stated the entire satellite was gone and not just contact with it.

Of great interest to Ufologists was an image captured either on, or above the surface of Mars. Commonly called the shadow, whatever caused this has never been determined. If it was indeed a craft, it was of immense size.

On March 31, 1989, headlines dispatched by the Moscow correspondents of the European News Agency (EFE) stated:

“Phobos 2 Captured Strange Photos of Mars Before Losing Contact With Its Base.”

Vremya revealed yesterday that the space probe Phobos II, which was orbiting above Mars when Soviet scientists lost contact with it on Monday, had photographed an UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT on the Martian surface seconds before losing contact.”

Scientists described the UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT as a thin ellipse 20 KILOMETERS LONG!

It was further stated that the photos could not be an illusion because it was captured by 2 different color cameras as well as cameras taking infrared shots.

One controller at the Kaliningrad control center concluded that the probe was now spinning out of control. It would seem that something struck or shot the Phobos II Probe.
